10 Regular Kitchen Items That Clear Hyperpigmentation In No Time

1. Apple cider Vinegar

I’ve used apple cider vinegar to get rid of scars. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid. Studies have shown that this product lightens pigmentation. The acetic acid acts as a chemical peel when applied topically (it gradually exfoliates dead skin cells and reveals healthier new skin that lies underneath). Apple cider vinegar can act as a toner for acne prone or oily skin (meaning that it removes excess oil, reduces blemishes, and tightens large pores). It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Hence, overall, Apple cider vinegar is excellent for hyperpigmentation treatment.

How to use:

  • Combine equal parts of apple cider vinegar with water to dilute
  • Apply to dark spots
  • Leave for 2-3 minutes and rinse

2. Red Onions

Red onions are rich in vitamin C. It is an antioxidant and helps treat hyperpigmentation.  It has other vitamins that help to tighten pores and to create a better texture for your skin.

How to use:

  • Slice red onion
  • rub the slice on the affected area of the skin twice a day
  • some Persons may try a different approach by grating the onions and using the onion juice to apply to the affected area
  • You can also look for creams that contain Allium cepa and use as directed

3. Yogurt

Yogurt contains lactic acid. Lactic acid is a common ingredient in chemical peels for skin. However, yogurt only has 1% of lactic acid and therefore can help with mild hyperpigmentation. It fades mild hyperpigmentation and detaches dead skin cells. This makes the skin look brighter and smoother.

How to use:

  • Soak cotton wool with yogurt and apply to the affected area
  • leave for 20 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water

4. Milk

Milk like yogurt contains lactic acid which helps to brighten and lighten dark spots and dead skin that has accumulated in the face and other parts of the skin. It is loaded with essential nutrients that benefit the skin in numerous ways. Vitamin D (accelerates the production of collagen, decreases wrinkles, diminishes dark spots and promote youthful glowing skin), Vitamin B6 (promotes the formation of new cells) Vitamin B12 (helps lighten skin tone and treats unevenness).

How to use:

  • Dip cotton wool in milk
  • Apply to hyperpigmented areas
  • Rinse after 20 minutes

5. Lemon juice

Lemon juice contains Alpha hydroxy acids. It speeds up cell renewal. It is known for the natural treatment of skin conditions such as age spots and acne. Lemon juice also contains antioxidant properties that not only protects skin from ultraviolet rays but also lightens dark spots. lemon is excellent for hyperpigmentation treatment.

How to use:

  • You can mix lemon juice with honey
  • apply to affected areas
  • wait for 15 minutes and rinse

6. Turmeric

Turmeric is a spice used traditionally that lightens hyperpigmentation. It contains curcumin and this inhibits the activity of melanin production.

How to use:

  • Combine turmeric powder with water/milk
  • apply to hyperpigmented areas
  • leave for 10-20 minutes
  • rinse with lukewarm water
  • repeat daily

You can also use creams that contain turmeric. Use as directed.

7. Green tea


Green tea has potent inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can serve as a hyperpigmentation treatment by preventing the production of excess melanin and by getting rid of dark spots.

How to use:

  • Brew some green tea
  • when it cools, using cotton wool or a cotton ball, dip inside

Drinking water is very beneficial. The inside affects the outside. When you drink enough water, it will keep you hydrated and ensure better skin. Drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily to fight hyperpigmentation.

9. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contains antioxidants such as lycopene and Vitamin C. These antioxidants help to tone and brighten the skin. Using tomatoes may not be excellent as a hyperpigmentation treatment but it will also add a natural glow to your skin.

How to use:

  • You can mix papaya with tomatoes to make a thick paste
  • apply to affected areas
  • leave for 15 minutes
  • rinse with lukewarm water

10. Oatmeal

Oats are enriched with amino acids and Vitamin B which boosts blood circulation and fights hyperpigmentation by fading dark spots. Oats are also antioxidants that help to get rid of sun burns and heal damaged skin. I have used this before and yes it does get rid of sun burn. You can use an oat cream and apply to skin as directed.
