 Clay Hair Wash

Disclaimer – my hair is natural and textured, and thus I will be discussing natural and textured hair (type 1 to type 4). If you have chemically processed hair, the clay hair wash may not be for you. I would also like to mention that no metals are used with theses clays.

Rhassoul/Ghassoul

Rhassoul Clay also known as ghassoul clay or Red Moroccan Clay comes from the Arabic word for washing, “Rhassala”.  It is reddish-brown clay that originates from Morocco. This clay draws out impurities from the skin and hair, and is used for detoxifying, cleansing, reducing dryness, and soothing scalp ailments such as dandruff and psoriasis.

Benefits

Rhassoul clay gently cleanses the hair without depleting protective natural oils from the hair and scalp. It also conditions your hair leaving it moisturized and soft after washing therefore it can replace your shampoo and conditioner. Clay soothes the scalp, due to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It reduces dryness and flakiness as well as provides relief from dandruff and psoriasis. It removes excess oil, unblocks clogged pores, and creates the optimal environment for healthy hair growth.

How to Use

Dissolve clay in water forming a smooth, silky paste which is an excellent cleanser for the skin and hair.  Apply paste to hair. Because of its high mineral content, this clay eliminates the need for deep conditioning after washing hair. It acts as a detangler for natural hair and helps define and soften waves and curls.

Bentonite

This clay is made up of aged volcanic ash. This is a great therapeutic clay that may be used for detoxing and revitalizing the entire body or applied topically to cleanse and detox the skin as well as the hair. Bentonite Clay is highly absorbent and has a strong attraction to positively charged chemicals, toxins, and impurities. This clay has a high concentration of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and silica.

Benefits

Some benefits include – it cleanses the hair and takes away product buildup, excess oil, dirt, from your scalp and hair. It combats hair loss, makes detangling easier, reduces frizz, increases curl definition, imparts shine, and makes hair more manageable. Also, it wouldn’t dry out your hair if used properly.

Kaolin

Kaolin Clay, also known as China Clay, has the lowest pH and the gentlest cleansing action amongst all clays. Kaolin clay is available in several colors based on the mineral constituents.

This clay gently cleanses the hair and scalp without excessively drying it. Therefore, it can be used if you normally have dry hair since it stimulates blood circulation and gently exfoliates the scalp while cleansing the hair.
